Privacy Policy

BenriDeck is a service for creating and studying Japanese study decks: stories, vocabulary, grammar, and kanji. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what happens to it. We keep this deliberately short and only collect what the service needs to work.

Information we collect

• Account details: your email address, a display name, and a password. Your password is never stored in readable form: we keep only a one-way bcrypt hash of it.
• Your content: the decks you create, including their titles, tags, and the stories, vocabulary, grammar, and kanji inside them.
• Your preferences: study settings such as whether readings and English show, your chosen voice, speech rate, and page size.
• A session cookie: one essential, HttpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

How we use it

We use this information only to run the service: to sign you in, to store and show the decks you create, and to remember your study preferences. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Cookies

We use a single, strictly necessary session cookie so that you stay signed in as you move between pages. It is HttpOnly (not readable by scripts) and is cleared when you sign out. We do not use third-party, analytics, or advertising cookies.

Public decks

Decks you keep as personal are visible only to you. If you publish a public deck, its title and content become visible to anyone using BenriDeck, and others may copy it into their own decks. Do not put private information in a deck you publish.

How your data is protected

Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes. Sign-in sessions are opaque tokens held on our server rather than in the cookie itself, so signing out actually revokes them. Your account and deck data are stored in a private database accessible only to the service.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with third-party advertisers or analytics providers. We may disclose information if required by law.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete any deck at any time, which removes its content. To delete your account and the data associated with it, contact us using the address below.

Your choices

You can review or change your account details and preferences from within the app, and you can ask us to provide or delete the personal data we hold about you.

Children

BenriDeck is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service or the law. Continuing to use BenriDeck after a change means you accept the current version, which always lives at this same address.
